Milk thistle extract is made from milk thistle fruits. Are known for their liver-protecting and regenerating effects. They contain silymarin (a mixture of different flavonolignans) as the most important active ingredient, as well as fatty oil and a lot of protein. The positive effect on the liver is based on the fact that milk thistle extracts stabilize the cell membranes and thus prevent cell toxins such as alcohol from penetrating the liver cells or can displace them from them. In addition, silymarin can intercept cell-damaging free radicals (aggressive oxygen compounds), stimulate protein synthesis and thereby promote the regenerative ability of liver cells. Milk thistle can therefore be used for toxic liver damage (e.g. caused by alcohol or fungal toxins) and as a supportive treatment for chronic inflammatory liver diseases (such as hepatitis) and liver cirrhosis.

I bought the milk thistle capsules for the detoxification/regeneration of my husband's liver, who, as a chronically ill person, was diagnosed with fatty liver disease due to too many medications. It is very easy to take with one capsule a day, it has a neutral taste and is easy to swallow. The extent to which it has a positive effect on liver function may be determined after long-term use, but there is nothing to say at the moment.
