Field of use

• The preparation is a medicine that binds phosphate in the intestine.
• Field of use
  • To reduce phosphate absorption from the intestine in patients with renal insufficiency and elevated serum phosphate levels, particularly in patients on dialysis programs.

Contraindications

• The preparation must not be taken
  • if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to the active ingredient or any of the other ingredients of the product.
  • with hypophosphatemia (too low phosphate blood content).
  • in case of stool constipation.
  • for colon stenosis (narrowing of the colon).
  • from infants and children up to the age of three.
  • during pregnancy.

dosage

• Always take the product exactly as directed. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
• The dosage depends on the level of serum phosphate levels.
• Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is:
  • 3-6 Hard capsules of the preparation (900 mg - 1800 mg aluminum chloride hydroxide complex (9:8:19) 23 H2O) per day.
  • For children from the age of three, the dosage should be reduced according to body weight.
  • To adjust the dosage, plasma phosphate levels should be checked regularly.
  • The hard capsules are taken whole with sufficient liquid throughout the day with meals.

 

• Duration of application
  • As long as an increased serum phosphate level requires the prescription of the preparation by your doctor.
  • Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of the preparation is too strong or too weak.

 

• If you have taken more of the product than you should
  • Stool constipation may occur and the use of laxatives may be necessary. Please discuss this with your doctor.

 

• If you forget to take the product
  • Do not take a double dose if you have forgotten the previous dose, but in this case continue with the prescribed dose. However, please inform your doctor about this.

 

• If you stop taking the product
  • Please inform your doctor if you stop taking the product.

 

• If you have any further questions about using the medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Intake

• The hard capsules are taken whole with sufficient liquid throughout the day with meals.

Patient information

• Particular caution is required when taking the preparation
  • When using the preparation, regular checks of aluminum blood levels are necessary. 40 µg/l should not be exceeded.
  • In addition, neurological examinations (including measurement of brain waves) and possibly bone examinations should be carried out at regular intervals (approximately every six months) in order to detect aluminum poisoning as early as possible.
  • To adjust the dose, the phosphate levels should be checked regularly.

 

• Ability to drive and use machines
  • No studies have been conducted on the effects on the ability to drive and use machines.

Pregnancy

• Before taking/using any medicines, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
• Pregnancy
  • The preparation must not be taken during pregnancy as there is no experience with this in humans and animal experiments with aluminum compounds have shown harmful effects on offspring.
• Lactation
  • The preparation should not be taken during breastfeeding as aluminum passes into breast milk.

Miscellaneous

- Have phosphate levels in your blood checked regularly by your doctor
- If you take larger quantities over the long term, have your aluminum levels in your blood checked regularly, especially if you have chronic kidney failure (even if you take them for a short time)
- If you have chronic kidney failure, have your nerve function and bones examined at regular intervals (approximately every six months)
