Patient information.
Warnings and Precautions: Intravenous injection of high doses from Pascorbin® can lead to acute kidney failure due to kidney stones by precipitation calcium oxalate crystals in the kidney. This has already been observed in doses of 1.5-2.5 g. Patients with existing restriction of kidney function (renal failureienz) are particularly at risk for this. Adequate fluid intake (approx. 1½ to 2 l per day) should be taken into account. Do not exceed 100 to 200 mg in patients with recurring kidney stone formation. Patients with high -grade or terminal renal failure (dialysis patients) should not receive more than 50 to 100 mg every day. In patients with erythrocytic glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (hereditary disturbance of the metabolism of the red blood cells), heavy hemolyses (resolution of red blood cells) were observed under high doses of vitamin C (more than 4 g daily). Exceeding the dosage of 100 - 500 mg ascorbic acid daily must therefore be avoided. In patients with known breathing difficulties (especially by restricting the breathing function, such as asthma, chronic bronchitis or smoking cough), Pascorbin® can be treated with high doses (from 7.5 g) in individual cases. It is therefore recommended to start treatment with lower doses in these patients. Pascorbin® must not be mixed with medicinal products, the effect of which is reduced by chemical reduction. Children: In children under the age of 12, an I.V. administration of 5-7 mg ascorbic acid/kg kg should not be exceeded per day as part of the parenteral nutrition. As part of the therapy of methemoglobinemia in childhood, a lot of 100 mg ascorbic acid/kg kg should not be exceeded every day. Older people: Adequate fluid intake (approx. 1½ to 2 l per day) should be taken into account. Special note for diabetics: After parenteral administration of ascorbic acid, the detection reaction of glucose is disturbed in the blood. Hints.
