How does the ingredient of the medicine work?

The medicine consists of digestive enzymes extracted from the pancreas of pigs. These are very similar to the naturally occurring digestive enzymes in the human gastrointestinal tract and mix with the chyme in the stomach and intestines after ingestion. There they help to break down food by breaking down fats, proteins and carbohydrates into smaller units. This supports the digestion of the food. These are then absorbed into the blood or the lymph and distributed to the cells of the individual tissues via these transport routes.

- Inflammation of the pancreas, in the acute state
- Cystic fibrosis (an inborn error of metabolism): a strict assessment of the benefits and risks of treatment is required.

- Pregnancy: consult your doctor. Various considerations play a role in whether and how the drug can be used during pregnancy.
- Breast-feeding: According to current knowledge, there are no indications that the drug should not be used during breast-feeding.

Contraindications

• The drug must not be taken,
  • if you are allergic to pork pancreas powder or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

dosage

• Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
• Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is:
  • The dosage depends on the extent of the indigestion. The guide dose is 1 - 2 hard capsules per meal (equivalent to 20,000 - 40,000 lipase units). The required dose can also be higher.
  • Especially in patients who receive very high doses in order to adequately control the indigestion, the dose should not exceed the enzyme dose necessary for adequate fat digestion, taking into account the quantity and composition of the meals. The dose should only be increased under medical supervision and aimed at improving the symptoms (e.g. fatty stool, abdominal pain). A daily enzyme dose of 15,000 - 20,000 units of lipase per kg of body weight should not be exceeded.

 

• Duration of use
  • The duration of the application is not limited and depends on the clinical picture.
  • Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect is too strong or too weak.

 

• If you take more than you should
  • Overdoses have not yet become known.

 

• If you have taken too little or missed a dose
  • Do not take twice the amount the next time you take it, but continue taking it as described in the dosage instructions.

 

• If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

Revenue

• Swallow the capsules whole with sufficient liquid (about 1 glass of water) during each meal.
• Patients who cannot swallow the entire capsule can pull open the capsule and swallow only the enteric-coated microtablets whole.

• Warnings and Precautions
  • You should only take the drug in acute inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis) and in the event of an acute flare-up of chronic inflammation of the pancreas during the main phase of the disease after consulting your doctor.
  • In the decaying phase of pancreatic inflammation during an appropriate diet, taking it occasionally makes sense if there are indications of a continuing disturbance of pancreatic function.
  • What else do you need to look out for?
    • Bowel narrowing (intestinal obstruction) is a known complication in patients with cystic fibrosis. In the case of intestinal obstruction-like symptoms, the possibility of narrowing of the intestine (strictures) should therefore be considered.

 

• Ability to drive and use machines
  • The drug has no or negligible influence on the ability to drive and use machines.

Pregnancy

• You can take the drug during pregnancy and breastfeeding after consulting your doctor.
• Fertility
  • Studies on the influence of pancreatin on fertility are not available.
