Area of application

Manuka is a shrub. A relative of the tea tree, it grows wild in the uninhabited regions of New Zealand. For centuries, the honey collected by bees from the Manuka bushes has been used by the Tohunga, the Maori healer.

The beneficial properties of honey have been recognized for a long time. The quality of Manuka honey and its difference from other honeys can be determined by its antibacterial activity. This is indicated by the MGO content in mg/kg. MGO stands for methylglyoxal, a component of Manuka honey.

In addition, the UMF value (unique Manuka factor) is determined in the honey. This value is expressed as IAA for our honey. The higher the number, the stronger the activity. Determining these values is important because they reflect the honey's activity.
