Field of use

• The drug contains the active ingredient loperamide hydrochloride. Loperamide hydrochloride is a remedy for diarrhea.
• For the symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea for young people aged 12 and over and adults, unless caused therapy is available.
• Treatment with Loperamide that goes beyond 2 days may only be carried out under medical prescription and monitoring.

Contradictions

• The medicine must not be taken,
  • if you are allergic to Loperamide hydrochloride or one of the other components of this medicine.
  • of children under the age of 12 (see also "What should be taken into account in children?").
  • if you are avoiding conditions in which a slowdown of the intestinal activity is to be slowed down, e.g. B. the body, constipation and intestinal obstruction, suffer. Imodium akut must be discontinued immediately if constipation (constipation), driven body or intestinal obstruction (ileus).
  • if you suffer from diarrhea, which are associated with fever and/or bloody stool.
  • if you suffer from diarrhea that occur during or after taking antibiotics.
  • if you suffer from chronic diarrhea (these diseases may only be treated with Loperamide hydrochloride in accordance with medical prescription).
  • if you suffer from an acute thrust of ulcerative colitis (ulcers in large intestine).
• The medicine may only be taken according to medical prescription if there is a liver disease or has been through because the reduction in Loperamide can be delayed in serious liver diseases and the risk of side effects can be increased.
• What should be taken into account in children?
  • Children under 2 years of age must not be treated with medicinal products containing lopers.
  • Children between the ages of 2 and 12 may only be treated with medical medicines contained in accordance with the medical prescription. Due to the high content of the active ingredient, the drug is not suitable for this age group in acute diarrhea. According to the medical regulation, other forms of dosage are available for this.

dosage

• Always take this medicine exactly as described or exactly after the agreement made with your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
• The recommended dose is
  • Young people aged 12 and over
    • First dose: 1 hard capsule (= 2 mg loperamide hydrochloride)
    • Repetition dose: 1 hard capsule (= 2 mg loperamide hydrochloride)
    • Daily maximum dose: 4 hard capsules (= 8 mg loperamide hydrochloride)
  • Adult
    • First dose: 2 hard capsules (= 4 mg loperamide hydrochloride)
    • Repetition dose: 1 hard capsule (= 2 mg loperamide hydrochloride)
    • Daily maximum dose: 6 hard capsules (= 12 mg loperamide hydrochloride)
  • At the beginning of the treatment of acute diarrhea, the Erstdosis. After that, the repetition dose should be taken after each unshaped chair. The recommended daily maximum dose must not be exceeded.
• Children under the age of 12
  • The medicine is not suitable for children under the age of 12 due to the high content of the active ingredient. According to the medical regulation, other forms of dosage are available for this.

 

• Duration of the application
  • Do not take the medicine without a medical advice for more than 2 days.
  • If the diarrhea continues to exist after 2 days of treatment with Imodium akut , the preparation must be discontinued and a doctor must be consulted.
  • Treatment with medicinal products containing loperamide may only be carried out under medical prescription and monitoring.
  • Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect is too strong or too weak.

 

• If you have taken a larger amount than you should
  • If possible, see a doctor immediately, especially if you feel the following symptoms:
    • Stark state of the body, coordination disorders, drowsiness, narrowing of the pupils, muscle stiffness, weak breathing
    • increased heart rate, irregular heartbeat, changes in your heartbeat (these symptoms can have potentially serious, life -threatening consequences)
    • Constipation, intestinal closure, difficulties when urinating
  • Children react more to large amounts of the drug as adults. If a child takes up too much or shows one of the above symptoms, call a doctor immediately.
  • Informations for the doctor
    • Signs of overdosing loperamide hydrochloride can also occur after a relative overdose due to a liver dysfunction.
    • The treatment depends on the overdose symptoms and the clinical picture. Under medical observation, EKG monitoring should be carried out with regard to an extension of the QT interval.
    • When CNS symptoms appear after overdose, the opioid antagonist naloxone can be used as an antidote. Since Loperamide has a longer duration of action than naloxone, the repeated administration of naloxone can be displayed. The patient should therefore be monitored closely for at least 48 hours in order to recognize a possible (re) occurrence of overdose symptoms.

  • Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist before taking the medicine,
    • if you have AIDS and want to take this medicine to diarrhea for diarrhea treatment.   • If the diarrhea continues to exist after 2 days of treatment, the medicine must be discontinued and a doctor must be consulted.

 

• Wateriness and ability to operate machines
  • In the event of diarrhea or as a result of intake, dizziness, tiredness and drowsiness may occur. Therefore, caution is advised in road traffic and working with machines.

Pregnancy

• If you are pregnant or breastfeed, or if you suspect that you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this drug.
• Pregnancy
  • Even if with a limited number of women (approx. 800) who take the active ingredient of this drug during pregnancy, no clear indications of a fruit -damaging effect were found, you should not take the preparation during pregnancy.
• Breastfeeding
  • Since small amounts of the active ingredient can convert into breast milk, you should not take the preparation during breastfeeding.
