Mode of action
How does the ingredient of the medicine work? The laxative effect comes about because the active ingredient accumulates water after ingestion and transports it into the large intestine. In the intestine itself, the increased concentration of macrogols attracts even more water in order to balance the concentration between the inside and outside of the intestine. The resulting softening of the stool and the increase in volume triggers a reflex evacuation of stool due to the expansion of the intestinal wall.
