Field of use

Lactulose hexal (pack size: 500 ml) is a laxative. The medicine is used:

• in the event of constipation, which cannot be adequately influenced by fiber -rich food and other general measures
• for diseases that require relieved bowel movements
• for prevention and treatment in postage in postage (i.e. brain functional disorders as a result of chronic liver diseases, especially in cirrhosis of the liver).

Mode of action

The active ingredient lactulose contained in lactulose hexal (pack size: 500 ml) makes the stool softer by pulling water into its intestine, this makes it possible to dissolve the bowel movement more easily.

Contradictions

Lactulose hexal (pack size: 500 ml) must not be taken:

• if you are hypersensitive (allergic) against lactulosis or one of the other components of the preparation
• if you have symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting and fever, this can be signs of a serious disease, such as intestinal obstruction (ileus) or inflammation in the gastrointestinal area. With such symptoms, you should immediately seek medical advice.

Application recommendation of Lactulose Hexal (pack size: 500 ml):

Always take the medicine exactly according to the instruction. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not quite sure.

Also keep in mind that after taking the specified doses of the preparation of a clear, often from patient to patient, it takes different times until the desired effect shows. The laxative effect of the drug can occur after only 2 to 10 hours, but it can also take 1 to 2 days until the first bowel movement, especially if there is still insufficient dosage.

The preparation must be dosed differently depending on the area of application. The doses specified here can only serve the orientation and, if necessary, have to be changed in order to achieve the desired effect.

Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is:

• With constipation
  • Adult
    • 5 - 10 g 1 to 2 times a day (corresponding to 7.5 - 15 ml)
  • Children
    • 1 to 2 times a day 3 - 6 g (corresponding to 4.5 - 9 ml)
  • Especially at the beginning of the treatment of constipation, larger doses of the drug are often required. In general, this slightly higher initial dose can be reduced after 3 - 4 days.
• In postage in postage, i.e. if the brain function is impaired in the context of a liver disease
  • Adult
    • At the beginning of the treatment of a postage of postage, adults should 5 - 10 g (accordingly 7.5 - 15 ml).
    • Then the dose should be slowly and carefully increased to 20 - 30 g (according to 30 - 45 ml) to 3 to 4 times a day. The goal should be the emptying of two to three soft chairs per day.
  • Children

• Duration of the application
  • The duration of treatment depends on the development of the respective clinical picture.
  • Please speak to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect of the drug is too strong or too weak.

Taking

Please measure the dose required for you. This amount of syrup is then mixed with water or with warm drinks, e.g. coffee or tea or mixed in yogurt, muesli or porridge and taken together with these foods. The intake can take place independently of the meals. If a one -time dose is sufficient to successfully treat constipation, taking it has proven to be particularly compatible in the morning after breakfast.

Particular caution when taking the drug is required

• In the event of faults in the water and electrolyte balance (salt loss), the preparation should not be taken.
• If you have been constipated for a long time, you should have your doctor advised and examined before the start of therapy with the medicine, because chronic disorders or impairments of bowel movements can be a sign of a more serious illness!
  • Since inherited fructose intolerance may not have been recognized in infants and toddlers, they should only receive the preparation after consultation with a doctor.

• Wateriness and operating machines
  • The medicine has no adverse effects on perception, judgment and reaction.

Pregnancy

Harmful effects of lactulose when taking it during pregnancy and breastfeeding are not known. Lactulosis can also be taken during pregnancy and lactation.

Hints

The laxative effect can occur after 2-10 hours, if there are insufficient quantities, 24-48 hours can pass by the 1st stool.

When taking the drug should be taken into account for a high -fiber diet, as this supports the laxative effect.

Adequate fluid intake (at least 2 liters daily) must be paid.

In the case of diabetics, the synthesis -related content of lactulose must be taken into account in digestible carbohydrates (100 ml contain max. 17g = 1.4 be).
