Instructions for Use

The total dose should not be exceeded without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.

How should it be used?
Apply the medicine thickly to the affected area(s) of skin. Then massage the medicine in gently. The area(s) treated with the medicine should be covered with a bandage. Remove any remaining ointment before each dressing change.
Wash your hands thoroughly after use.
Avoid accidental contact with the eyes.

Duration of Use?
The duration of use depends on the type of symptoms and/or the progression of the disease. When used as a permanent dressing, the dressing should be changed after 3 days at the latest. If symptoms persist or recur regularly, you should consult your doctor.

Overdose?
Overdose may cause skin irritation. If in doubt, consult your doctor.

In general, pay careful attention to the dosage, especially for infants, young children, and the elderly. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist about any side effects or precautions.

The dosage prescribed by a doctor may differ from the information in the package leaflet. Since the doctor adjusts the dosage individually, you should therefore use the medicine according to his or her instructions.

Mode of action

How does the active ingredient of the medicine work?

The active ingredient, ammonium bitumen sulfonate, is a sulfonated shale oil. When applied to the skin, ammonium bitumen sulfonate has a weak antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect.

- Antioxidants (e.g., butylhydroxyanisole, butylhydroxytoluene) can cause skin irritation (e.g., contact dermatitis), irritation of the eyes, and mucous membranes.
- Lanolin alcohols (e.g., wool wax, lanolin) can cause skin irritation (e.g., contact dermatitis).
- There may be interactions with certain medications. Therefore, you should always inform your doctor or pharmacist about any other medication you are already taking before starting treatment with a new medication. This also applies to medications you buy yourself, use only occasionally, or have used for some time.

ICHTHOLAN^® 20% Ointment

Active ingredient: Ammonium bituminosulfonate.

Indications:
ICHTHOLAN^® 10%, ointment is used to treat superficial inflammatory skin conditions. ICHTHOLAN^® 20%, ointment is used to treat boils and superficial abscesses. ICHTHOLAN^® 50%, ointment is used to treat boils and abscesses and for supportive treatment of gonarthrosis, bruises, and sprains. Ointments contain lanolin and butylhydroxytoluene.

The black drawing ointment ICHTHOLAN^® 20% contains the active ingredient ammonium bituminosulfonate (ICHTHYOL^®). Studies and research prove:

The active ingredient fights bacteria. Inflammation is inhibited, and painful symptoms are reduced. The black drawing ointment loosens the skin barrier and "draws" pus to the skin's surface so that it can drain more easily.

The black drawing ointment ICHTHOLAN^® 20% penetrates deep into the skin and quickly "draws" inflammation and pus out of the skin.

ICHTHOLAN^® 20% is used for
• Nail bed inflammation
• Razor bumps
• Inflammation caused by splinters and thorns
• Sweat gland inflammation

ICHTHOLAN^® 20% is applied thickly to the affected area and covered with a plaster or bandage that fits tightly around the area.

Important for purulent skin inflammation: Above all, act immediately to prevent the infection from spreading and, if possible, avoid a visit to the doctor! Take precautions by keeping ICHTHOLAN^® in your medicine cabinet.
Good to know: ICHTHOLAN^® is available in three strengths: 10%, 20%, and 50%. The gentle ICHTHOLAN 10% ointment was developed specifically for the treatment of sensitive skin areas, such as the intimate area or face. The highly concentrated black drawing ointment ICHTHOLAN^® 50% is used when pus has accumulated deep in the skin, as in boils and abscesses. The general rule is: don't use a sledgehammer to crack a nut! As with any medication, use as much active ingredient as necessary, but as little as possible.
