HYLOVIS^® LIPO multi – help with dry eyes:

Patients who suffer from dry eyes complain of tired, red and burning eyes. Other common symptoms include scratching, uncomfortable pressure and swollen eyelids. Dry eye is widespread and is one of the widespread diseases in Germany. Approximately 15-17% of the total German population suffers from dry eyes - with women being affected more often than men.

Around 60-80% of patients suffer from the so-called hyperevaporative form of dry eye. This is a disruption of the lipid components of the tear film. The tear film evaporates too much because the protective lipid layer (fat layer) is damaged. The clinical picture of so-called meibomian gland dysfunction* is now seen as one of the main causes of dry eyes. The secretion of the meibomian glands, which are located on the edge of the eyelid, prevents excessive evaporation of the tear film and at the same time stabilizes it. Meibomian glands that do not function optimally and a disorder of the lipid layer lead to a disturbed tear film. The consequence is dry eyes. Eye drops with hyaluronic acid and lipids – such as HYLOVIS^® LIPO multi – have proven successful for the treatment of dry eyes.

Innovative active ingredient combination of hyaluronic acid and lipids

In simple terms, the tear film consists of three layers. An outer lipid layer, the aqueous middle layer and the inner mucin layer. The tear film adheres to the surface of the cornea through the mucin or mucus layer. The aqueous layer forms the middle layer and makes up the majority of the tear film. It not only contains water but also important nutrients, hyaluronic acid and oxygen to supply the surface of the eye.

The outer lipid layer is produced by the so-called meibomian glands and prevents the tear fluid from evaporating, thereby stabilizing the tear film.

Thanks to the innovative combination of hyaluronic acid and selected lipids, HYLOVIS^® LIPO multi works on all three layers of the tear film immediately after application. The lipids close the gaps in the lipid layer and thus stabilize the tear film. HYLOVIS^® LIPO multi can therefore effectively help to relieve the symptoms of dry eyes.

Hyperevaporative dry eye

A defective lipid layer creates gaps through which moisture evaporates from the aqueous layer.

Tear substitutes with lipids

The wetting solution closes the gaps in the lipid layer, the aqueous layer and the mucin layer are stabilized by the hyaluronic acid.

ANWENDUNGSEMPFEHLUNG
Wash your hands thoroughly before use. Unscrew the cap, tilt your head back and hold the drip opening over the eye to be treated. Use the index finger of one hand to pull the lower eyelid down. By gently squeezing the bottle, a drop of the HYLOVIS^® LIPO multi solution is released. Unless otherwise recommended, drip 1-2 drops into the conjunctival sac as needed. Do not bring the dropper tip into contact with your eye or touch it with your fingers. The solution is distributed by blinking your eyes. Any remaining drops on the dropper tip should be shaken off with a quick hand movement. Place the protective cap of the bottle back on the bottle after each use.

What are the causes of dry eyes?
The causes can be very different. Dry eyes can be due to external influences (e.g. dry environment, air conditioning, ozone, dust), internal influences (e.g. diabetes, rheumatic diseases, hormonal changes) and taking certain medications (e.g. contraceptive pills). The composition of the tear film is often disturbed and therefore evaporates more quickly; this is often due to meibomian gland dysfunction.

What is meant by meibomian gland dysfunction?
The meibomian glands are sebaceous glands located at the edge of the eyelids. If there is meibomian gland dysfunction, they are blocked or inflamed. This disrupts the production of the lipid layer of the tear film, causing it to evaporate more quickly. This can lead to dry eyes. Watery eyes can be an indication of meibomian gland dysfunction.

How long can I store HYLOVIS^® LIPO multi?
The multi-dose bottle should be used within 4 months of first opening. After the expiry date, HYLOVIS^® LIPO multi may no longer be used.

How do HYLOVIS^® LIPO multi and HYLOVIS^® LIPOdiffer?
The difference is the dosage form: HYLOVIS^® LIPO multi is offered as a multi-dose bottle of 10 ml each, HYLOVIS^® LIPO is offered as practical single-dose ampoules of 0.4 ml each. However, the formulation of the solution contained is the same in both dosage forms. This means that each user can decide which one they would prefer to use.

What else can be done to help with dry eyes? The human body consists of 60 percent water. Water is essential for the body and fulfills a variety of tasks. Therefore, you should always drink enough, but also if you have dry eyes.

Further tips against dry eyes include:

· blink consciously and regularly
· Ventilate interior rooms regularly and protect your eyes from drafts

Furthermore, regular check-ups by an ophthalmologist are essential for the success of the therapy. In addition, nutritional supplements can help maintain normal vision. Ich bin begeistert von diesen Tropfen. Habe schon viele Jahre alle möglichen Tropfen probiert, aber diese pflegen und befeuchten meine Augen wirklich nachhaltig. Meist reicht eine einmalige Gabe, das hatte ich bei anderen nie.
