Medical device for the symptomatic treatment of cold sores

Intended Use
herpotherm^® neo is a patented medical device for the local treatment of accompanying symptoms of herpes (herpes simplex labialis), such as pain, burning, itching, tingling, or tightness.

herpotherm^® neo can prevent the development of cold sores if used promptly. Delayed application can result in a milder course or earlier healing.

Mode of Action
The application of concentrated heat (local thermotherapy) is a physical principle based on the brief, concentrated application of heat to a narrowly defined area of skin. Even a localized heat input can be sufficient to relieve symptoms such as itching, burning, tingling or tension, or if applied in a timely manner, to prevent the formation of cold sores.

Application
The application of herpotherm^® neo is very simple to use:
1. Remove the protective cap from the device.
2. Place the device with the ceramic contact surface on the affected skin area and press it lightly.
3. After pressing the button, the heating phase begins. During the heating phase, the ceramic contact surface is heated to a temperature of approximately 51°C. Once this temperature is reached, a treatment lasts 3 seconds. The LED lights up during the treatment. The device switches off automatically after the treatment. An acoustic signal also sounds at the beginning of the heating phase and at the end of the treatment.
4. Remove the device from the treated skin area and place the protective cap on the device.

Instructions for Use
herpotherm^® neo is indicated for self-application by adults and children 12 years of age and older.
On children under 12 years of age, the device should only be used with adult assistance.

Individuals who have limited ability to perceive the device's visual or acoustic signals should seek adult assistance during use. Children under 7 years of age are often unable to understand the connection between a brief heat treatment and its positive benefits. Therefore, please carefully check whether symptomatic treatment with herpotherm^® neo is suitable for your child. Please also remember that children's skin is still developing and may therefore react more sensitively to heat stimuli. Do not use the device on children under 3 years of age.

Warnings
herpotherm^® neo must not be used on or near
• eyes and eyelids
• mucous membranes
• open wounds, damaged skin (e.g. B. Open blisters)
• Scalds or burns of the skin
• Frostbite of the skin
• Tumors and malignant changes of the skin
• Known increased algesia (increased pain sensitivity) in small fiber neuropathy, allodynia, hyperalgesia
• People with known reduced sensitivity to pain and temperature.
Furthermore, the device must not be used immediately after applying ointments, creams, lotions, etc. to the area to be treated.
