Guarana PUR 500 capsules (pack size: 60 pc) is a dietary supplement to me guarana extract, a gentle alternative to coffee for the body. The seeds of the Guarana plant growing in South America contain up to 5x more caffeine than a coffee bean. In addition, it has the property compared to coffee bean to release the caffeine over a longer period of time in the body. The effect can remain in the body up to a period of 6 hours. The abrupt drop in performance known from other caffeine products does not occur with the Guarana extract.

For me, it's much better than energy drinks. I've never liked coffee, so I only drink it when I don't have anything else available. For a few years I got my caffeine from various mate drinks until I finally realized how much sugar I was actually consuming. 25g per 0.5l bottle! I often drank one or two shots of Club Mate during a workday, sometimes even three or four. In the end it just tasted disgustingly sweet and I had to force it down, but I just needed the caffeine. I absorbed 50 to 100 g of sugar from this alone. Since I also eat a lot of sweet things, I wanted to at least eliminate this source of sugar. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a mate drink with sweeteners that I liked. So I came to capsules. The sugar/sweetener is actually only in energy drinks and sweetened coffee because the caffeine tastes so bitter and to make it more palatable. The advantage of such capsules is simply that you cannot taste the bitter caffeine because they first dissolve in the digestive tract and release the guarana powder. Ergo: no unnecessary sugar intake. On the one hand, I chose these capsules because most others contain too much caffeine per capsule for me. This one only has 50 mg, so it's easy to dose. I usually take two at a time (100 mg) because I don't really feel the effect of one. I rarely take more than four capsules a day. On the other hand, because the packaging says exactly what's inside (see product description). And last but not least, because comparable capsules such as those from Make yourself awake are far too expensive per capsule. I don't feel the effects of the caffeine as quickly as with mate or coffee, probably because I don't taste anything when I swallow (so no placebo effect of immediately feeling more awake). But it is just as good and lasting as both of them. Incidentally, these capsules, like most dietary supplements, are cheaper in online pharmacies than on Amazon. Just search for it at Medizinfuchs and you’ll save another ~40%. If I calculate the price per 100 mg of caffeine, it's not much cheaper than Club Mate, but without all the sugar.
