REST: carrier solution for compatible electrolyte concentrates and medication, supply free water.

Against: Insulin refractory hyperglycaemia that requires more than 6 units insulin/hour; Hypocalaemia, without simultaneous electrolyte substitution; Metabolic acidosis, especially in the case of minor perfusion and insufficient oxygen offer. Further contraindications can result from the liquid intake associated with the glucose intake. These include hyperhydration states and hypotone dehydration. Caution with increased serum molarity, especially when using highly concentrated solutions and rapid infusion speed.
