Instructions for Use

The total dose should not be exceeded without consulting a doctor or pharmacist.

How should I use it?
Take the medicine with liquid (e.g., 1 glass of water).

Duration of Use?
The duration of use depends on the type of symptoms and/or the course of the disease. If in doubt, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Overdose?
An overdose may, among other things, lead to inhibition of sweat secretion with skin reddening, dry mouth, rapid heart rate, and difficulty urinating. If you suspect an overdose, consult a doctor immediately.

Forgotten a dose?
Continue taking the medication as usual at the next prescribed time (i.e., do not take twice the dose).

In general, pay careful attention to the dosage, especially for infants, small children, and the elderly. If in doubt, ask your doctor or pharmacist about any side effects or precautions.

Mode of action

How does the active ingredient in the drug work?

The active ingredient influences the nervous system by inhibiting the transmission of certain stimuli. Various neurotransmitters are involved in the transmission of stimuli, some of whose function is suppressed by butylscopolamine. In this way, the drug can relieve spasms of the gastrointestinal tract, the bile and urinary tract, and the uterus.

Contraindications

What speaks against use?

- Hypersensitivity to the ingredients
- Constriction of the digestive tract, e.g. E.g., in the esophagus, stomach, or small or large intestine
- Megacolon (abnormally enlarged intestine)
- Cardiac arrhythmias with rapid heart rate (palpitations)
- Myasthenia gravis (nervous system disease with muscle weakness)
- Urinary retention
- Prostate enlargement
- Angle-closure glaucoma

Which age group should be considered?
- Children under 6 years of age: The medicine should generally not be used in this age group.

What about pregnancy and breastfeeding?
- Pregnancy: Consult your doctor. Various considerations play a role in whether and how the medicine can be used during pregnancy.

Notes

What should you be aware of?

Buscopan^® Coated Tablets

Active ingredient:

Indication:
For the treatment of mild to moderate gastrointestinal cramps, as well as for the treatment of cramp-like abdominal pain in irritable bowel syndrome. Note: Contains sucrose (sugar). Read the package insert. Pharmacy only.

Buscopan^® Coated Tablets 60 pieces with butylscopolamine for mild to moderate abdominal pain and cramps

Does your abdominal area cramp and ache? Then you need to relieve the unpleasant pulling and stabbing as quickly as possible. Buscopan^® Coated Tablets start working within 15 minutes. Thanks to the active ingredient butylscopolamine, they specifically relieve gastrointestinal discomfort caused, for example, by stress, flatulence, irritable bowel syndrome, or food intolerances.

Buscopan^® Coated Tablets are used for mild to moderate pain. The active ingredient scopolamine is extracted from the Duboisia plant and then refined into butylscopolamine. The active ingredient is able to occupy specific receptors in the intestinal muscle cells, thereby specifically relieving cramps and tension at the site and alleviating the associated pain.

At the same time, butylscopolamine is well tolerated. Therefore, Buscopan^® coated tablets are suitable not only for adults, but also for children from the age of six. Buscopan^® is usually taken three times daily, with one to two coated tablets being usual per dose. The decisive factor is the amount of the active ingredient: One coated tablet corresponds to 10 mg of butylscopolamine. The recommended maximum daily dose is 60 mg, or a total of six coated tablets. Buscopan is lactose- and gluten-free.

Buscopan^® coated tablets should be swallowed whole and with plenty of liquid – preferably a glass of water. This ensures that the coated tablet contents reach the desired target: the gastrointestinal tract. If symptoms do not improve after five days, you should consult a doctor. Your pharmacist or doctor will also be able to answer any questions you may have about correct use and dosage. Further important information and precautions can also be found in the package leaflet.

I find Buscopan tablets very good for when you're on the go. You can take them without drinking anything and they're also very effective for stomach and tummy pain.
