Astragalus is a very widely branched plant genus within the vascular plants with about 1600 to 3000 species. Native to Asia, the subspecies Astragalus membranaceus is known in China as "Huáng qí," meaning "yellow leader." It is one of the most important medicinal plants in traditional Chinese medicine and its roots have been used as a tonic for over a thousand years.

The most important ingredient classes of tragacanth root are polysaccharides, triterpene saponins - which also include the astragalosides I to VIII - isoflavonoids, amino acids, fatty acids and minerals. Astragaloside IV plays the most important role as the biologically most active substance. The pharmacological effects of the ingredients have been well studied in vitro and in animal models.
The extract from the astragalus root is particularly popular with hay fever during the allergic period. Ideally, it should be taken four to six weeks before the pollen season and should be maintained during this time.

Can I take Astragaloside IV permanently?
Taking astragaloside IV is considered harmless. If you follow the recommended intake, there are usually no side effects, even if you take it continuously. In rare cases, the active ingredient piperine can cause minor irritation of the mucous membranes in the gastrointestinal tract. If this is the case for you, take the capsules with a meal.
